Kendargent Colt Tops V2 Sale

Athough turnover, clearance rate and average were down on the 2014 edition, last year’s top price of €90,000 was easily eclipsed at Tuesday’s Arqana V2 sale, as lot 442 a colt by Kendargent (Fr) (Kendor {Fr}) was knocked down to Alain Decrion on behalf of Jean-Claude Seroul for €150,000. The colt, offered by Haras d’Ommeel, comes from the family of G3 Jersey S. winner Dutch Connection (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}). The V2 sale is promoted as a source of precocious yearlings thought likely to make early 2-year-olds. Therefore it wasn’t a surprise to see several well known breeze-up consignors stocking up for next year and it was one of these buyers, Powerstown Stud that made an early splash, going to €70,000 for lot 389, a son of Dark Angel (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}). Powerstown’s Tom Whitehead said, “He’s by a very good stallion, he will go back to Ireland and we will prepare him for the breeze up back here next year.” First season sire Wooton Bassett (GB) (Iffraaj {GB) had his fifth winner on Tuesday and it was a daughter of the Haras d’Etreham stallion that caught the eye of trainer Jean-Claude Rouget. Rouget had to go to €110,000 to secure lot 412 who was also consigned by Etreham. Later in the day a Zoffany (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) colt, lot 498 consigned by Haras de l’Hotellerie was snapped up by Meridian International for €100,000.
